PROJECT SCOPE
Englewood Elementary is revered in the architectural community, having originally been designed by legendary architect, Jack West. While the campus has grown and changed through the years, one of his original buildings remains a highlight on the campus.
FBA partnered with Sarasota County Schools to design an addition that complimented West’s minimalist design. The new wing creates a hard edge to a green space that was created once the exisiting structure was removed. Within the grass courtyard, raised brick walls zig zag through allowing for outdoor learning and gathering opportunities.
The initial scope was for six classrooms. Through innovative design and cost conscious material selections, the program was expanded to eight classrooms. This enabled the removal of all portables from the campus.
